ABOUT THERAPY

Psychotherapy and Counselling Goals

Therapeutical Goals:

According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” Through the use of various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, my patients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with any of life’s various obstacles. My therapy sessions are designed to dissect personal issues and provide patients with practical tools to help them see the glass half full instead of half empty.

Before your first session, ask yourself:

  • WHAT BOTHERS YOU, OR WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE?

  • WHAT ARE YOUR NEEDS? (for example: Do you need strategies or practical solutions for your bothering issues? Or do you need to talk to a professional who would be attuned to your pain? Or do you need to understand yourself or your thinking and behaviour patterns better?)

  • HOW WILL YOU KNOW THAT COUNSELLING HAS HELPED YOU?

MODALITIES OF THERAPY AND MY APPROACH

CBT OR 'TALK' THERAPY

There are hundreds of Psychological modalities which fall into FIVE big categories:

  1. Dynamic Psychotherapy or Psychoanalysis focuses on changing problematic behaviours, feelings, and thoughts by discovering their unconscious meanings and motivations. The aim is to increase self-awareness and insights about ourselves and our relationships.

  2. Cognitive Therapies emphasise the understanding of negative beliefs or biased interpretations and aim at replacing them with helpful thinking. The therapist has an active role in counselling by promoting changes in his client's cognition.

  3. Behavioural Therapies, focusing on the learning's role in reinforcing desirable behaviours.

  4. Humanistic therapy promotes the competence to make rational choices and develop to our maximum potential.

  5. Integrative Psychotherapy. Contemporary approaches emphasise the theoretical conceptualisation common to CBT and Dynamic approaches and establish a new formulation.

My Agenda:

An excellent therapeutic practice would integrate Evidence-Based strategies with the latest research in Psychology, such as Virtual Reality tools, Mindfulness and Neuropsychology Based interventions alongside Insight and 'talk' therapies (which have also proven to be efficient in facilitating a change and enhancing self-awareness).

According to comparative research comparing the abundance of modalities, a few factors predict a successful therapy. It seems that the most critical factor predicting a successful treatment is the therapeutic alliance:

"The research indicates that effective therapists form a strong therapeutic alliance across the range of patients seen in therapy... The most important aspect of effective therapy is that the patient and the therapist work together to help the patient reach their goals in therapy".

Therefore, Ronit encourages her clients to discuss their issues with her openly, be authentic in their relationship in their session, and learn how to negotiate different expectations and needs to create a safe place for them.
